Transportation If there is a permanent change in how your child goes home, please contact our secretary, Karen Waugh, at email@example.com to let her know of the change. If there is a temporary change in how your child will go home for the day, please send a note to school in your child's Big Take Home Envelope. If the change occurs after your child leaves for school, you will need to contact Mrs. Waugh. If you send me an e-mail, I may not see it before dismissal. Some days are very crazy and I do not get to check my e-mail messages. Also, if there is a substitute, they will not have access to my e-mail. Mrs. Waugh will relay the change to me or a substitute teacher. The Chapman Elementary phone number is 761-5864.
Going home with a friend: If your child is going home with a friend BOTH children need to have a note stating that this is the case. This will ensure that a child does not show up at another house unexpectedly!
If you pick your child up after the AM class or drop them off before the PM class, please park your car in the lot across from the front door and walk over to the sidewalk to meet your child or drop your child off.
Take Home Envelope Please use this envelope each day to return the book your child brought home from the classroom. Be sure to return the book even if you did not get a chance to read it. Your child can always choose the book again. This envelope can also be used to return their Friday Notes Home folder or to send notes to school. Please do not place ACE library books in the Big Envelope.
Friday Notes Home On Friday, your child will bring home their Friday Notes Home folder. Each Friday we will tell you about something that we liked about school that week. Please sign the sheet at the front of the folder and have your child place it back inside of their Big Envelope. You can also write a short note to your child if you like. These folders are a great way to watch your child grow as a writer this kindergarten year.
Birthdays We love to celebrate birthdays in kindergarten! In our classes this year, we have many children with food allergies. It is very important that our classroom be a safe environment for all children. With this in mind, we ask that no food treats be sent to school. Thank you for your support with this as we strive to keep every child safe.
Ideas for birthday treats: -Small Trinket- pencil, eraser, stickers, bouncy ball, etc.
Mrs Durant's Class Sizes
25 kids in the AM class and 25 kids in the PM class.
Mrs. Stefango's Class Sizes 25 kids in the AM class and 25 kids in the PM class.
Recess We will try to go outside every day! Dress for the weather. It is no fun to be cold! Wear good shoes for running in the mulch.
Backpacks Students need their backpack every day. Please make sure it is large enough to easily accommodate a large picture book.
Independence Please help your kindergartner gain independence in caring for their school items and their personal belongings. It is my goal that the kids be able to take their Big Envelope from their backpack on their own. Likewise, they need to be able to put this envelope into their backpack at the end of the day. As the weather gets cold there will be coats and hats and mittens to take off and put on. Please encourage your child to put on their coat on their own. Teach them how the zipper and buttons and snaps work and give them time to practice using them. We are happy to help the kids here at school, but we want to see them trying these things on their own.
Classroom Volunteers If you would like to sign-up to help in the classroom, you can sign up with this link to our Sign-Up Genius site (Mrs. Durant) or Sign-Up Genius (Mrs. Stefango). We can use a helper for about 30 minutes at the start of each day. It's not glamorous work, but it is so very helpful to us and we greatly appreciate it.
